Music Spotlight: FINNEAS

You may have heard of FINNEAS as the songwriter + producer behind his sister Billie Eilish's sound, but his solo artist project is even more impressive. We're so stoked on his new latest track college. We chatted with FINNEAS about the track + his authentic approach to music.

Asymmetric Magazine: We want to say congrats on your recent release. We’re big fans! Tell us about College.
FINNEAS: Thank you! When my high school girlfriend moved from LA to NY to go to drama school, we tried really hard to make it work, but it inevitably didn’t work out. It really broke my heart, but life moves on. After I started dating someone else, my ex started to subtweet me like crazy. I wrote this whole song as a response to that.

AM: How would you describe your sound?
F: Honest, eclectic.

AM: What themes do you typically pursue through your music?
F: I think mainly I just try to focus on the things that feel the most confessional and true. I feel like if you can admit something to yourself in your music, people will really connect with it.

AM: What other musicians are currently inspiring you?
F: Bruno Major, Bon Iver, Still Woozy, Dominic Fike

AM: What role does Los Angeles play in your work?
F: It’s the backdrop of my whole and almost all my songs. With the exception of anything I’ve written elsewhere or about someone elsewhere, Los Angeles has everything to do with my music. I love this place.

AM: Where is one place that you feel completely in touch with your creative self/music?
F: My bedroom where I record all my own and my sister’s music.

AM: What can we expect to hear from you next?
F: I'm putting out a couple new songs I’ve been working really hard on over the next few months. I mainly want to just give people the most accurate representation of who I am and what kind of music I make. It might take a lot of songs to do that.
